I actually am doing a series on frugal things people can do to save some money. My first post was on food, and my second post was on home goods & tasks.

Basically, there are lots of things you can do to save money. You can share meals when you eat out, keep your A/C up in the summer and heat down in the winter, reuse household items (coffee, paper towels), get yourself a few Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, use OxiClean, hand wash your 'dry clean only' items, add water to your soaps, and much more!

        Needs not Wants

If you really want to save money, you need to discipline yourself on doing so. Be responsible enough to prioritize your "needs" rather than your "wants". Sometimes when we have lots of money we tend to overspend it on things which are really not necessary. If you really want to save, discipline yourself and always make your budget plan ahead.

From my personal experience, perhaps you can translate for your business.

Cell phone - I use Virgin Mobile (be sure to check coverage), with discount, my monthly cost is about $32.50

Instead of having a land line, get Obihai products, google voice, and you have "free" phone lines. No monthly fee.

Call utility company every 6 months or so to negotiate a new rate. I have a rental property, and I was often able to get some savings.

I've said before that I'm from the UK, so this might not help everyone here, but I like to act as a "smart consumer", which means making sure I'm getting what I need for the best price. One of the ways I do to save money is used a site called 2save.co.uk. I used it a lot at Christmas, but just bought a DVD so came back in my mind. It isn't useful for everything, but when I'm buying myself a book or someone else a present, I'd usually look there to make sure I'm getting the best price.

I'm sure our US companions have similar services.

I have something to say in here as you might switch your accounts to the bank which gives you better benefits. Or, you might give a look at free customer rewards program if you could. Make a delay on your unnecessary purchase and then give a rethought. If you feel it is necessary then buy it otherwise omit it. Found credit card company that allow rate reduction. I hope you will benefited.

Actually saving money depends on your eagerness of doing it. I deduce an amount every month and make up my mind by thinking that that's my actual salary, and I will have to cover the hole month without that particular deducted amount of money.

I believe saving money is as hard as earning money. For me, I need to know to assess my expenses and look for possibilities where I can get the money for my savings.

Spend whatever leftover after saving instead of saving what you left.

I keep my money out of sight and actually punish myself when I impulsively buy something. Keep your goal in mind and think of how guilty you'd feel if you wasted another wad of cash on something that isn't that lovely car! You can do it, and at most only splurge on small things here and there.

After the economic crisis, we all have learnt it in the hardest possible way that saving money is very important. People keep on saying that budgeting is important in order to save money. But I would say that, though it is good to prepare a budget for yourself, it will be better if you could strictly follow it. Unless you follow the budget that you have prepared, it won’t be of any help. Create a goal that you want to save a stipulated sum at the end of a particular year, and make sure that you work toward it. Moreover, make sure that you invest your money in the right schemes so that you can see your money increasing!
