I pay $80/month for the best insurance they have for my 2007 Dodge Caliber. But now my new work is less than 1/2 mile away- if that. In nice weather (when not pregnant) I will probably ride my bike. So considering that I will hardly ever drive anymore, should I lower my coverage?

Many companies base the premium partly on how many miles you drive regularly. It is worth calling and asking if you qualify for a reduced rate if you don't use the car much.

Jim, aren't there some insurance companies that don't sell through independent agents? I don't know if it is still true, but I know that even though Progressive advertises that they'll compare their rate with other companies, they couldn't give you a comparison with Geico because you have to deal direct with Geico to get insurance through them.

When I had full coverage, I was paying roughly $1300 every 6 months, now I'm on liability, I'm paying about $500 every 6 months.

Here in Wyo. with Horace Mann for Educators, I pay $250(col.) per 6 mo. on a 2000 F250 and $97(Lia.) per 6mo. for a 1997 Suburban. I have always thought we get better rates because of the lack of people on our roads vs. the city. This thread proves I am getting a good deal on auto ins.

I've been with allstate, progressive, american family and my current agent. My agent saved me around $200 when I went from american family to my current agent. In spite of wife's driving record (she gets 1-2 tickets per year) our rates keep decreasing.

Like I said he shops our policy and generally raises coverage and lowers what I pay every 2-3 years.

                          Myrate

Just wondering... Does anyone use myrate to track driving so insurance costs will be lower? It's a chip you plug into your car. People with progressive or gmac can sign up and it can lead to discounts. It sounds interesting, but I was just wondering if it can also lead to increases? If anyone has any good or bad stories about this myrate program let me know!
