Most of us grew up with money being the root of all evil, or it didn't grow on trees, or many other negative lessons about cash. Whether we admit it or not, those little statements shaped how we view money. And, if you can accept that, then this simple mental exercise can change your thinking going forward.
First, check under your car seats, couch cushions, pockets, behind the dressers, etc., and collect all the loose change in your home. Make a pile and divide it equally in half. Now, cash the change in for bills. It doesn't matter how little the pile is. Just make sure there are 2 equal amounts.
Now, take one of those "piles" of cash and give it away. I don't care where. Church, the cans at convenience stores, PTA, or where ever they are collecting for charity.
Take the other pile and do what ever you want with it. Buy a candy bar, a book, or whatever the amount lets you spend. Then, take a breath and look at what you've done. You've given money away to charity and then spent it on something totally unnecessary. WOW!
If you can afford to give money away and spend it carefree, then you have enough in your life. Now, it's just a question of how to rearrange it so you can get yourself debt free. Instead of telling yourself, "I can't afford it." Start asking, "How can I afford to do this?" Change your mind. Change your outcomes. Change your outcomes, change your life.
