I guess this is my way of stickin' it to the man

The only person you are stickin it to is yourself. If you want to buy into this nonsense, your choice.

Aleta, I think cooliemae was referring to owners reporting their vehicles stolen in order to get money out of their insurance company illegally.

Yes, thank you Lux Living. I understood what she meant but I was also bringing up the point about cars being stolen for parts as well. Older car parts can be hard to obtain and they're not cheap.

Where I live, they find card constantly at the bottom of a lake or canal and they know that they were purposely driven there by the owners.

We sold a Ford Contour and kept my F250 and Suburban. The suburban has been paid for since 02' and the truck is close. My wife was driving the contour to work to save miles on the suburban. Made more sense to us to keep the vehicle that was paid for and could still haul a family of 5 and two dogs. May seem backwards but we felt we didn't need 3 vehicles and by the way, the Contour sold very quickly.

I have a Hyundai Elantra and a F250 Diesel. The Elantra is my daily driver, and I use my truck to tow the boat and to pick up materials for construction projects. I'm not making any moves with my vehicles anytime soon. The Elantra gets around 34mpg, so I'm keeping it until the wheels fall off. I don't drive the truck that often, so it should last a longtime.

Nope, in fact I am looking forward to buying a replacement SUV for my wife at a huge discount compared to what we might have paid a year ago.

Hah, yep, you can get some sweet deals right now on trucks and SUVs.

I see this thread is back from the dead, so I'll update you all.

I never did sell my truck. We sold my Wifes PT Cruiser instead. We decided we would miss the truck too much, so instead I sent a check for $10k and paid it off. So, now I have a 2007 truck with only 8,000 miles on it paid for. My Wife and I work together so we most often times carpool. When we do we drive the Honda Fit. What a great car! We also ride a motorcycle when weather permits. Between the Fit and cycle I'm averaging 45 mpg. My truck mostly sits in the garage looking pretty. Anyway, I thougt I'd update ya'll.

I have a ten year old truck that mostly sits. It is paid for and has less than 100k on it. I only have liability on it of less than $200 a year. It runs great and hauls wood, tows trailers, and navigates snowy/icy roads. I would be lost w/o it. I thought of the "sweet deals" offered now but I have a good one and I believe in keeping them if they're good. Mine isn't so pretty anymore but I'd be like a farmer w/o a tractor to get rid of it. It sucks the gas when I use it but it get's the job done.

Back in 10/06 I traded my paid for BMW X5 for a Camry hybrid. I went from about 17 mpg (premium) to about 40 mpg (regular) and never regretted it for one minute. But, that was before the pricing of SUVs bottomed out...
