  • More Troops or come home?

    Want to sign a petition?

Recently, President Bush had an opportunity to announce that he would begin to bring our troops home. Instead, he made the choice (39029 signatures on petition)

I have friends over there. I respect your right to petition but I must respectfully decline.

That's a highly volatile subject matter right now.

Of course, being "Foot in mouth diseased", I also can't seem to keep my mouth shut sometimes. I will only say that my personal beliefs can be summed up in the saying, "Never start a fight. But if you're already in one, never stop until you finish it."

If you want to mix politics and saving money, why don't you just join The Motley Fool's site. Plenty to keep you busy over there.

For the record: My SIL came home from Iraq February 5th and no I am not signing your petition.

I respect our troops very much. My father fought in world war I and world war II.

Just for the record, I think it's possible to support our troops and our friends over there, and still be against the war as well as for the speedy return of everyone. I had a good friend killed over there, and I'd still sign that petition if I did such things on the Internet.

No thanks. Regardless of why we started this war or what you think about how it's going the fact of the matter is the consequences of pulling out before the job is done are far more severe than staying and finishing the job.

If you pull out now, you do what the Russians did in Aghanistan and see how the Taliban kept power and said that the Russians cut and run. I agree with Brokern Arrow that once you're in, you are there to finish it. I think that allowing Malaki or whatever his name is tell us how we conduct our war there is nuts. Else, our men there will become a Vietnam situation with their hands tied behind their backs. I'd say that they have to go in there with a lot of force and do the job right.

Re: More Troops or come home?

Uhhh, I guess this is financially related because we won't be spending so much money on the war if we pull the troops out. So here goes...

I fully support our troops and usnavy has hit the nail on the head. I can't understand why the people who want to pull out have such short memories. 9/11 was only 5 years ago. Don't they understand that the Islamic terrorists want us dead? They don't just want to win the battle in Iraq, they want us dead. That means they will come to our soil when we leave. It's too bad that the higher ups have tied our troops hands instead of letting us fight all out like back in the WWI and WWII days. Unfortunately there's no way to win a war if it's going to be fought in a PC type of manner. If we had gone in initially and given the terrroists what they deserved as intensely as possible, there would probably be less civilian casualties than there are now with all of the bombings.

Do you remember when Bin Laden issued threats days before the last presidential election? Do you think he wanted Bush to lose because he liked the taste of Heinz ketchup? No - it's because he knew the democrats would be soft on the terrorists. No, I don't want anymore troops to die, but fighting this fight is necessary. Tell me, do you want to fight the terrorists before they get nuclear capability or after? I guarantee they won't be hesitant to use it like we are. Iran is close to getting nuclear capabilities and there is ample evidence coming out that they are very involved in the battle for Iraq by supplying insurgents with weapons and new technology. I listened to a retired green beret last night talk about a new weapon they have in Iraq - molten copper in shells that can penetrate 17" tank armor like a hot knife cutting butter. If you want to listen to the extremely interesting and informative interview, go to http://www.krld.com, click on "audio", then "Charley Jones Interviews". Downloads are on the left under "Recent Episodes". I don't know if the ones on the website are from last night or the ones from a month ago. He has this gentleman on every month.

It looks inevitable that a democrat will be elected president in '08. I feel sorry for where our country is headed and pray that they will not turn a blind eye to the realities of our current world. God bless us all.

                        Hey,
I put this under General Discussion
                        which states:
Feel free to talk about anything and everything in this board. It doesn't even have to be about saving...

I simply wanted others who were interested, to know about this petition.
I did not state my opinion on this matter and I won't.
It is fine with me if anyone does or doesn't want to sign the petition.
There is no need to give anyone any lectures!
I think everyone in this group is old enough to make up their own mind about what is going on in the world.

You're opinion on this matter was already stated when you posted a petition to bring the troops home. It's only fair to let others express their opinions as well.

Re: More Troops or come home?

All troops are volunteers. Just something to keep in mind. Most of them are not complaining because it is their job. Of course, they would rather be home with their loved ones, but this is what they are trained for. As an army wife, I'd prefer the war was over so I don't have to say goodbye to my husband again, but I don't think the time is yet right to pull out. The job just isn't done and there are other strategies to pursue.

Pupart, I think it is fine that you posted the petition for those who want to sign. Our military protects the constitution and each persons right to speak freely.
