  • $10k a month to invest

Howdy, amazing board... I never imagined money could be so interesting and worth keeping!

I've been consumed by depreciating assets. A beach home we couldn't rent - We are selling it. Wave runners and motorcycle being sold as well.

This will complete our EF, fund our Roth IRA, and we're also maxxing our kids college funds.

The cars we paid too much for - We'll pay off in 3yrs at 1.9%
The most recent want was an RV paid cash, but having relocated to the States with young kids, it's fun we're not willing to give up atm.

    Houses are paid off.

**I have around $10k+ a month to invest regularly.

I realize attractive investments are constantly changing. I'm willing to dollar cost average if necessary. If you could invest $10k a month in your taxable accounts, where would you aim?

    Im 43, married, 2 kindergardeners
    $32k month coming in
    $18-20k expenses

My inclination is to simply diversify and buy something different every month. Add to winners, axe the losers on annual review. I was thinking:

    Mutual funds
    Ind. stocks
    Dividend funds
    Corp bond funds
    Commodity "
    International emerging markets
    Gold
    Even bear funds

I think you are about to make a huge mistake.

Selling the motorcycle when spring is just around the corner

I am getting our WR250R dual sports ready for summer fun right now.

As for 10K a month, that is about what we have to invest, although our total income is quite a bit less than yours...we live cheap. I buy mostly Vanguard total stock market index.

I'm probably more "conservative" in approach (although not in practice as my allocation is 75% equities/25% bonds) than others.

You listed mutual funds: like KTP, my equities are in a Vanguard Total Stock Market Fund and a Vanguard Total INTERNATIONAL stock fund, which covers international and emerging markets. Basically covering the whole gamut and keeping expenses and risk low. Then I have a Vanguard Total Bond Market Fund. That covers my bond allocations.

At the level you are investing, I don't even mind a small allocation to gold and individual stocks. Personally, I wouldn't put anything more than 5% total of those combined in my portfolio.

If you make enough to fund your lifestyle, which it seems like you do, why take on the risk of dividend funds?

There are thousands of funds to pick from. Vanguard has a good selection. Look for ones with low expense ratios andf a good track record of performance. You can look into target funds if you want to take some of the guess work out of things.

Sorry, haven't been tyring to be a shill for Vanguard. I believe Fidelity and T. Rowe have low cost funds as well

I realize this doesn't address the question you asked, but you may want to work on a budget first. Your expenses are sky high.

Our sky high budget terrifies us too, and we are making major changes.

I hate to sell the bike, but the rv will take us all to Yellowstone in style.

              Love the suggestions, great forum!

What does one spend $20k/month on?? Are these fixed expenses like a giant house/yacht/etc or variable like dining out 3 meals a day, exorbant vacations and weekly wardrobe upgrades?

                  Big expenses ugh, lessee:

We maintain a city vacation home in Makati/Philippines. The beach home is being sold
Our primary home is in Vegas.

                  The M3 and X6 3 years left
Plane tickets - I'm going to start flying just once a year soon.
Helping family - It's not too much, but complicated.
Employees - Helpers, Nannys (This doesnt cost much in the 3rd world)
                  Family Healthcare
Electricity for AC alone is extremely high in the islands

It's so many little things. Ya, way too high and i'm trying hard to deal with it moving forward.

The yacht was sold years ago after 5 years ownership. 2nd happiest day ever! Never again... used.

Interesting. Mind me asking why the Philippines? My company has a business headquartered in Casecnan -- its the only one of our platforms I haven't visited. Most people who have been say I don't want to go (dangerous, dirty etc) and we've known a few people from there who have said the same. Can honestly say I've never heard of anyone owning a vaca home there. Are you or your spouse Philippino or were you drawn to it for some other reason?

Sorry this is totally off track from what you asked...
