  • Why???

...am I not pre-approved for the Chase Sapphire℠ Preferred Card - 40,000 Bonus Points, Earn Two Free Flights! right now? I recently eliminated a false negative on my credit report, exploding my 600 score (once 720 in 2009) to 750 in just 60 days. I have been tracking using Credit Karma. I know sites like Karma and Credit Sesame are considered very rough approximations. However, I have further proof that my score is in good shape. When joining Chase in mid April, I was pre-approved for their Freedom card which apparently requires at minimum a score of 700, probably 725 area.

So why was I denied pre-approval for the Sapphire card today when on the phone with a Chase associate? You get $500 in rewards flights for adding this card right now. Missing this for no good reason would stink.

    Thanks!

Did you ask them why? Perhaps they wont tell you on the phone. At any rate, they should notify you in writing the reason(s). Once you know why, you can decide how best to proceed.

That is a sweet deal. I did it last year when they were giving 50,000 pts. Some lucky pre-selected folks got 100,000.

You have to have a top tier score for these deals.

Consider it for the best. Chase regularly offers 50k points. Just wait a few months for your score to improve some more, and try again when you see a 50k point deal. IT could be your score is just on the verge and needs a few months for the real FICO to reflect more improvement.

They are also aiming these offers at people with higher income/higher spending. So not sure if that could have something to do with it?

      Good Luck!

Petunia yes I did ask why. The Chase employee said he was going to call one of the credit agencies for more information and call me back. It was at 430pm yesterday and he never did. I can call again today if I want but I think you guys are right. I must be just on the brink of approval and therefore I agree with you MonkeyMama, holding out for a better offer isn't a big deal.

        Thanks!

          Petunia - good point!

          Did you call this #?

Chase credit reconsideration line at 1-888-245-0625

At the least, they should get you an explanation.

Yeah maybe I'll call that today. Actually I simply called my local branch to talk with the guy who set me up w the account. He wasn't there though, it was some unknown guy who didn't call me back.

Thanks for that number. I'll almost definitely make the call this afternoon.

I was denied my credit card at first because my address included an apartment # that wasn't on the credit reports.

Called that Chase line today. She claimed quite a bit more than simply credit score goes into approval consideration - which I completely understand. It's more about credit history. Just a couple months ago I was a broke grad-student with a single $1k limit maxed out credit card with 6 false negatives on my credit history (now fully removed). The Sapphire card is one of their most elite, it has baller rewards and a minimum credit line of $5k. Right now my total credit lines aren't even $5k. I'm no longer surprised that I cannot get it yet. I'll wait another quarter

                Thanks again!
