  • New Blog Layout (Real this time)

We're now live with the new layout. Let us know what you think.

You can change nearly every color in your control panel, under settings.

Take a look at my blog to see what different colors can do: Blog Development- Real People, Real Finances

Thanks Nate for all your efforts on our behalf!! Things look great. I've never done much color stuff so I'm sure I may be back with questions on that front as I would like mine to be different, but do have a couple of questions now.

Can we put pictures in our header or on the left sidebar? If so, how to? How did you get that funky little picture in there for April Fools Day?

Can we do anything with all the extra space over on the right and if so how to?

Can we change the border color on the pictures??? How to?? Blue is not working w/my color scheme. Minor issue, but I can see where it might not work with other people's pallettes as well.

    AND

How do I increase the font size on the comments section? ...being as us older geezettes have a hard time seeing the print that small. Did I do something to mess it up accidentally? I think so as other people's comments appear larger!

Thanks again! I know everyone appreciates Jeffrey and your efforts to keep this site heading forward! Good job!!

I'm sure Nate will be on later to answer your questions more thoroughly

There isn't a way to get a photo in the header at this point. We will have photos in the about me section...that's one of the next things Nate will be adding. Not sure what's going on with the font size...it shouldn't be that small. There will be new tools added slowly but surely so while this is a good beginning, it's definitely not the end.

For those who are colored challenged (like me - you don't even want to know what my suggestions were for color themes when we first started savingadvice - pretty nasty stuff now that I look back), Broken Arrow has listed a couple of color tutorials:

Well worth the look to get the colors looking like you want

I like this better than the other crazy colors, look forward to learning how to manipulate things.

When I click on the new color in the settings page, in the color box, it doesn't change. Why? I've also tried typing in the color code and hitting update, but that doesn't work either.

Though I thought the colors were hideous I did like the blog layout last SUnday so glad it is back!

My problem is that on firefox (Earlier this morning mind you) everything was beautiful.

Now on internet explorer everyone's pag seems to fit on the screen except for my own. I don't know if this is because it is my blog, if it is a browser thing, or what. Anyone else notice anything?

The font is very large and I have to scroll to the right to see the rest of the page. I peaked at a few other blogs and they are all fine though. Maybe something changed since this morning... Or it is explorer, or I am jinxed, I don't know.

Your scheme looks the same for me both in firefox and IE. Maybe you fixed it?

Edit: It looks like your changes worked to me. I see some green links in your layout. If you click the colors boxes next to each option, they should come up after a second or so.

It looks like you figured out how to change the picture border colors? They share the same color with "Main Link".

I fixed the problem with the text in your comments being really small. It had to do with putting <html> tags in your bio section. The <html> tag is actually only supposed to be used once in a web page. It just tells the browser that what it's looking at is infact an HTML page.

Also, since you mentioned text size being a problem and I've noticed now your adding a lot of code to try to increase font size in your blog entries and forum posts, my suggestion is this... Depending on what browser you are using, you should be able to increase the font size from the toolbar. Up top you see File, Edit, View etc. Click View, Text Size or Font Size. Increase it there once or twice until you get the desired size. Let me know how that works out, or if you have any problems getting it working.

Right but when I click the color I would like the header to turn into (for instance) it says error in page at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. When I hit update it says the same. That was the part I was confused about.

Nate, my pic frames are still blue and now the pics are all over to the left. Did the center html command get stripped out? How do I go about centering them again? Or is that a no-no?

Thanks for getting the comments back up to speed!

ETA: Now the frames are pink again!! What/how is that happening? I'm glad - that color works better for me.

Is the blank white space of about two and half inches wide over on the right supposed to be there? Will we be allowed to use that space later or is that something you are going to be using?

Is it going to be possible for us to put one small picture over in the left hand column? Pretty please?? Or, can we do that already and I just don't know how?

It was a Internet Explorer issue - it was properly turning the color in firefox (which Nate always uses), but not in IE, so he didn't realize it was showing up blue for those who use IE. Anyway, fixed now.
