  • Anyone else with big changes in 2018?

Been a crazy end of 2017 for us...but the real changes come in Jan 2018.

First we're moving to another state (where we purchased our home.) Renovations are still underway but we have a room, living room, bathroom and kitchen we can live out of downstairs. The entire upstairs is still a construction zone minus the bathroom, thats done. Will have to wait till around April to install hardwood throughout the upstairs due to it being so dry in the winter.

We need to find a 2nd vehicle so my wife can drive to work the days she will not be working at home.

I found another job...starting that the end of Jan. Taking a 26% pay cut but thats no surprise moving out of a major metro area to the middle of nowhere. Ill no longer be able to max my 401k (actually I wont have a 401k)...still plan on maxing my roth ira, contributing to a TIAA because of the nice match then putting around $9k in a 457b plan. Nice part about 457b is you can withdrawal before age 59 without the 10% penalty like a traditional 401k. I never knew this.

Lot of changes coming. Been pretty stressful to say the least but we're both pretty excited for the most part. Will be nice to have both families within a couple miles of us.

Lots of exciting stuff it sounds like!! I don't have anything as big as your news but I have found some additional income that will really start rolling in in January. This will help for savings for our first home. We've paid off most of our debt and I will be buying a car in the new year. (It's been a little over a year since I've had one. We sold it to pay off debts.)

Hope your year and all of these great changes treat you well!

In 2018, our youngest child will graduate high school and head off to college. So we will then have college expenses for two. It's very possible it will be a year of promotion for my husband and a move late in the year. A promotion is timely with two in college! So grateful!

We're expecting our second child in 2018. Our oldest just switched day cares last week, and she's going to be moving out of the nursery and into a purple "princess room" in January. She's loving the new day care and handling the change wonderfully, so I'm hopeful that the new room and the new baby will be just as positive for her. But, it's still going to be a year of adjustment for everyone in our family.

I'm considering looking for a new job after I return from maternity leave and stop feeling sleep deprived. But, at the moment, I'm not sure if I'm feeling anxious to move on because it's time to move on or if I'm just feeling stuck because switching jobs right before having a baby sounds like a bad idea.

I havent given my 2 weeks notice yet. Im hoping my last day will be Jan 12...im going to give notice on Jan 2.

One of 3 things will play out...they'll let me work till the end...they'll walk me out that very day...or they'll walk me out and pay me until Jan 12. I have a good relationship but I am in IT so I have admin access to everything...sometimes employers get scared you'll do something to screw things up. If they walk me and pay me the 2 weeks that would be awesome.

Just in case I already have everything of mine cleared out. The only thing leaving with me will be my lunch bag and coat!

Congrats on the 2nd child coming. We've talked about trying for a kid later in 2018 (after a big vacation we're taking.) We'll see how that goes...we seem to keep putting it off.

Best of luck to you should you decide for sure it's time to start trying!

                Nothing too major for 2018.
I have a few projects lined up for the house, but business as usual other than that.

I will start 2018 with only one job for the first time since early 2016 as I've completed my transition from full time family practice to full time urgent care. I have an employment contract for the most money I've ever made in my career.

Our daughter will graduate college in May and come back home. We don't expect that to change in the near future. We will expect her to get a job and start contributing to her own expenses but we'll still be helping support her at least for a while. As I've shared before, she has some mental health issues that she continues to battle and we're proud of the progress she's made, including getting through college in 4 years and graduating with honors, something plenty of "normal" kids can't seem to manage. So we have no trouble giving her the help she needs to continue along in life as long as she is working on moving forward.

No other big changes that I can think of.

                    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
                    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
                    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

High probability I will take over a much bigger division (10x the one I am running now) in our megacorp. Will have to move to TX from OH. I'm ok with moving but DW is struggling with leaving the area. Kids are close (one in college) and long term friends. At some point we'll have to decide when to stop chasing more (not just money, I like to take on ever bigger challenges).

Second and final child will graduate in May. We fully funded both kids, less scholarships, so I'm looking forward to the last tuition payment.

New (to us) house with a mortgage. I had 50% downpayment. Coming up on 3 weeks since we moved in.

House is around 3x combined gross income - bigger house with higher monthly expenses, higher taxes, more upkeep (sq ft and lot size), etc. Required some upfront spending on specific items for this house and we did our best to prioritize the needs vs wants.

closer to my work; different school district; more appealing neighborhood/location compared to previous house.

So we'll see how this big change goes as we get settled in...

Some old, same old here, although I do want to work harder at increasing income and decreasing expenses. Just got my car insurance paperwork in the mail. An awful lot of money for a paid of car and we have driven only a tad over 3700 miles this year. Definitely going to be checking into auto house and rental insurance for sure!

I'm hoping to sell my house. Other than that...we'll see. Life has a strange way of happening
