  • Best wine, whiskey, vodka, spirits for the money

What are the best wine, whiskey, vodka, and spirits for the money?

Jack Daniels is the best for the money IMHO when it comes to whiskey.

I'm not a wine drinker so I'm not of much help in this dept.

Smirnoff vodka tastes the best to me for the money. It is fragrant, flowery, and smooth. Can't beat it for the price.

When it comes to beers, Heinekens is the best bang for my buck.

Hands down, Smirnoff takes the cake for Vodka. There are even rebates and/or coupons floating around to make it cheaper than actual dirt.I say this because I really did purchase dirt more expensive than a 750 ml bottle on the same day. I just saw a coupon in this past Sunday's circular, too. Sobieski and Wyborowa and very good as well. Buy them before they catch on and triple in price.

I cannot stand Jack. I much prefer anything Auchentoshan. The 12 year should be mandatory drinking for anyone 21 and over for the price.

I've had 2 bottles of Flying Dog Raging Bitch today and it was very good. Yes, I see the name! I like a wide range of beers. I can't be held down to a few. I used to love Hoegaarden until it became availeable here, and it just doesn't taste the same. I don't mean to sound like a beer snob, but it was my go-to in Belgium and it doesn't taste like it did there.

La Marca prosecco instead of champagne (except Duval-Leroy) any day of the week. It tastes of Banana Now & Laters and bubbles for $12 a bottle. Segura Viudas is a cava that can either taste exceptional or like the sugary dregs left in a cask. No matter if it is just the Brut or the Reserva Heredad, but cheap enough to forgive it either way.

Woodford Reserve is a good whiskey. So is Makers Mark.
I'm not a big Vodka fan.

I like lots of different wines. The ones from Chile are some of my favorites.

Is Two Buck Chuck still two bucks?

I used to love Mickey's Malt Liquor

My father was a Seagram's 7 drinker. That is really the only whiskey I have had. I liked it but have no idea how it compares to other whiskeys.

Since 2002, we've been using Freixenet sparkling wine when entertaining. And since 2002, it's been at $9.99 a bottle. It was a good deal back in 2002 and now it's an even better deal in 2016.

I'm assuming this thread is for suggestions for wines served at parties where cost/quality must be considered more carefully.

Oh, one good thing about sparkling wine is that it's replaced both red/white wines at out parties.

Yes for parties or any occasion. I can even drink the cheap $4.99 Andre champagne. Usually for New Year's the grocery stores drop the price of Andre champagne to about $3.99 a bottle. I buy about 5 when it comes on sale. I like cold duck or extra dry. The next tier up would be Cook's champagne at about $6.99 per bottle. For me top of the line champagne is Korbel's (lol). Sometimes I splurge and buy Korbel's at $11.99 but it would have to be a special occasion (ha-ha).

                  Guys,

I am going to be curmudgeon here and suggest that not drinking alcohol may be the most cost effective solution of all. I know we are mostly talking about quality of alcohol vs price here, but I would just point out that a good glass of wine or a mixed drink at a restaurant costs 5 or 10 dollars at the minimum.

If you are going to get alcohol, please go to a place like Costco and get your drinks in bulk, if you go to a local retail outfit like seven eleven or a corner liquor store you'll pay more per ounce.

Must be nice to be able to buy alcohol at Costco. Can't do that here in PA. At least, not yet. The state still has a death grip on the sale of booze. You have to go to the state store or a beer distributor for most alcoholic drinks.

As a side note, I rarely drink when I'm out. I mostly drink at home or at a friend's and family's houses.

I know Whole Foods is not known for being cheap, but their wine selection is great and their sales on wine are pretty decent. I usually grab a bottle of a red that is marked down to between 2-5 dollars and it is usually quite nice. Nothing fancy, but good as a regular dinner wine.

When it comes to Champagne, we went to a champagne tasting many years ago where we were 20 people and had to choose which was the most expensive champagne among 5 glasses based on taste. Almost everyone chose the cheapest one and thought the expensive one was a cheap one! So after that I have only bought a nice bubbly non-Champagne sparkling wine that I enjoy.

Whisky, however, I find the really nice expensive ones I enjoy much more because they are smoother and more well rounded. I haven't drunk Jack as a first choice since college and prefer something well aged. I don't skimp on my whiskey.

These days, however, I tend to go for organic wines and beers -- there are more out there and they are getting better.

I think DH likes crown royal for whisky. We have absolut for vodka. DH likes craft beers and stone is probably his favorite but pricy or dogfish. I'm not sure about wine but I serve 7 deadly zins which is supposed to be great for price.

This is Costco Brand Vodka (Kirkland) which tastes really good.
This helps with breathing issues sometimes before bed, depending upon the air quality. Our area is in the top 10 for bad air and my husband is on a CPAP machine at night. So 2-3 ounces helps alot

It doesn't make my face burn. 1.75 liters- Cost $13
