I was up this morning buying some light bulbs off of Amazon. Saw an ad for Prime Now. Checked it out. It's same day grocery delivery. Ordered some eggs, ice cream, cookies and bananas. 2 hours later, Chase showed up and dropped off 2 bags with my stuff. I am sitting here eating the cookies. Prices were better than Kroger, even with the $5 tip. What is the world coming to?

Yea...eventually no one will leave their home; no brick and mortar stores needed. Lucky you to be in one of the cities that offers that!My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

One person suggested ordering one from Amazon Now and it would be delivered to their hotel within 2 hours. The existence of a service like that just boggles my mind. And just wait until they get clearance to use drones. They'll be able to zip things to your door in no time at all.Steve

I'm not sure I'm a fan of drones because of security concerns. My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

We have two local stores that have stepped up their grocery delivery--probably to better compete with Amazon.
The huge benefit of this is the older people so they don't have to rely on someone for errands. A friend of mine that has a terrible time walking is now having all her groceries delivered.

lucky you! I would love Prime Now here. We have a grocery that delivers that we use, you get sale prices and can use coupons but it's $12.95 and there are lots of glitches. Trying to get coupons taken off took three phone calls and 25 mins on hold.

Sounds like a convenient service. Some pros & cons I conceive without having used the service might be receiving a bruised tomato, banana, or apples for example whereas going to the brick & mortar I know what I'm getting. Do they deliver alcohol? Or would I have to make a separate trip for alcohol? For meats/fish I like to see what I'm buying. Or as FLA mentioned coupons could be a hassle. When buying milk I like to check the expiration date due to sometimes finding a carton with a longer shelf life. Oh and once I order Palm canned corned beef from Amazon regular (not Prime or Fresh) and a few of the cans were dented. I just sucked it up and threw away the cans because it wasn't worth the time and costs to send it back. BTW Palm canned corned beef is the best canned corned beef in my opinion.
Albeit Amazon Prime = Amazon Fresh sounds like a good deal.
Von's supermarket in Los Angeles has delivery trucks advertising that they deliver free with a $50 purchase.

Amazon is doing a great job - they should be moving into automotives as well or so I hear. Before I start ordering groceries off Amazon though, I'd want to be sure they are cheaper than Costco or Aldi and are at least comparable quality to Costco or Trader Joes.
The reality is sometimes its hard to judge the quality of produce unless you can physically look at it before you buy.
Boxed stuff is probably fine.james.c.hendrickson@gmail.com

I have Amazon Prime Now in my area, but I just can't get over that $5 tip every time I order something. It's really quicker and cheaper for me to just hop into my car and go to the nearby grocery store.
I guess if it's over something that's heavy and expensive, then I wouldn't mind using it.

tomhole, Tabs, or anyone else who has used Amazon Prime Now:
Is $5 the suggested tip regardless of the order size? Is it mandatory?
I'm thinking about getting an Amazon Prime membership so that I can order groceries for my mom who is now house bound but want a sense of what I'd be getting in to. Would appreciate any info you can provide. Thank you!Last edited by scfr; 11-21-2016, 04:03 PM.

Hi hi, unless I am mistaken, yes, you pay this $5 mandatory "tip" every time you order something off of Prime Now. Imagine that being "gas money" for the individual drivers that they have to pay to make these deliveries instead of the usual big time shippers, like UPS or Fedex.-
However, if you can somehow find stuff that costs equal to or less than $5 each time, I guess it's no biggie, and you get free delivery on top of that... not including the monthly Prime membership to begin with.
While I'm here, if you are an existing Prime member, double check your email as they have sent out one with a $10 off promo code to promote their Prime Now service for Black Friday.
Now, unless something is super perishable, it's also possible to just order many grocery items in advance with their usual 48 hour shipping window, so you can minimize the $5 fee. And when you decide to switch to the Prime Now shipping, I recommend to tack on as much stuff as you need on there to maximize that $5 extra tip.Last edited by Tabs; 11-21-2016, 05:21 PM.
