  • Change clocks and consider fall maintenance

Enjoy an extra hour of sleep or relaxation. Hope everyone remembered 'fall back,' turning all clocks back one hour, your alarm clock, wristwatch, kitchen clock, vehicle clock, stove clock and others I presume your remote control devices are automatic.

Its also good to check your fire alarms on each level, changing out batteries if they are not hard wired. We also check that flashlights in each of the bedrm night tables are operational, reverse the ceiling blade direction and do a quick inventory of lightbulbs. LEDs are meant to be long lasting but I am all too familiar with Murphy's Law and the less vulnerable, the better. Best of all to match coupons with a sale price at one of the big box stores. Do you have a device called Zip It? Http://zipitclean.com/

My problem is I gave a very strong internal clock and can't sleep in, instead of waking up at 5:00 I'm up now at 4:00. I still wake up early like I did 6 years ago when I was working, since retiring I've only slept in till 7:00 one time

I hate the time change. It's hard to get anything done in the evenings now that it gets dark so early. I have several outdoor projects that still need done before winter, and I'd rather work at them during the week than to tie up my weekend.

Good call on the smoke detectors. There are extended life versions of 9v batteries now that last 5 or 10 years. Just make sure to do annual tests on your smoke detectors (usually press and hold the button and it will chime to let you know it's functioning OK and has adequate power).

We write the date in Sharpie on things like 9v batteries (and furnace filters, water filters) so we know when they were last replaced and do a sweep of them every year.

It's also that time of year to make sure gutters are clean, drains are unblocked, the furnace filter gets changed and the exterior water hookups on the house are covered so they don't freeze on cold nights.
