  • New threads since site update?

Anyone notice how there are not that many new threads started since the site update? Are most users abandoning ship?

I usually check this site a couple times a day to see if any new topics have popped up but have seen very little activity lately.

Agreed. It's been pretty dry as of late.

It appears some of the spammers have chilled out too.

Or, maybe the economy has more people spending instead of saving?

I am saving more than ever now so its not me.

I am new here so I can not comment before but it has been slow since I started. I just figured it was the makeup of the forum. I not sure when the update was that you are talking about.

I'm not sure I've really noticed a difference. Being a moderator, I will say that there's been less spam to delete. Though to be fair, I've been on the site less recently so the other moderators may be getting to it before I do.

Can lack of participation relate to a stronger economy? The media isn't talking doom and gloom on every broadcast. Not much fear, job loss, underwater on mortgage or falling behind on car payments has people focussed on more pleasant pursuits. Halloween has turned into a major event and people are making specific plans for Thanksgiving celebrations.

Agreed. Haven't seen a lot of interesting posts to respond to when I check in later in the day. Too bad there isn't smartphone app for this site, but that's another story.

I've felt like there's been a drop in interesting topics since the site change too. Sometimes a big site change can result in a search engine ranking drop. So, I wonder if there are just fewer new people finding the forum right now. New people seem more likely to start threads asking for advice than people who've been around for awhile.

All of the errors and quirky behavior of the webpage lately probably hasn't helped things either.

Blue based pages in this color scheme can be very difficult for some people to read, which is why so many websites moved away from that five or so years ago. People with visual impairments and many other conditions of the eye find these color tones painful or headache inducing. You can get software to filter the colors, I have an old program I had to install, but most people won't bother. They'll just not go to that type of site anymore. The gray and green was much easier for me to handle. Not that I post much here anyway, but for reading, I've been avoiding it until I found my software today.

It's also not quite as user friendly as it was before. Navigation takes longer with this system. Fortunately it didn't happen with the blogs.

I wasn't aware of the color issue for those who are visually impaired. That's interested. Having no impairment, I actually find the new design very clean and crisp and easier to read.

I totally agree that it isn't as user-friendly, though, especially navigating between forums. You can no longer just click on top to jump to the forum you want. That was a nice feature that was lost in the transition.

I think one of the main things that might be keeping people away is that the site still simply doesn't work. When you post a reply, it takes you to a white screen. You have to reload to get back to the forum. That's pretty annoying and I could see it turning away anyone new who would immediately think the site just isn't well-maintained.

Yeah, there are a lot of glitches all over the site. And we still can't post photographs in the blogs and that's going on several months now. I just keep hoping eventually it'll all get hammered out. But plus side, way less spammers.

The site is hard to navigate now, and hard for me to reply to stuff. I look through the blogs since they haven't changed, but i very rarely come to the forums now.

I agree, not much traffic of late. I don't post very often, but I do come to this site and look for new topics daily. I enjoy the topic of personal finance and have found some really useful information on this site. I hope it can keep going!

I am definitely less active here than I was especially the last few years. I've been mostly posting in FB. I recently just became a reddit member which very interesting site to say the least. They covers more topics beyond personal finance in one site. There just way many options now.
