I think 10 dress shirts are enough. I get my shirts from Custom Stitichers and fell very comfortable in them.

Men - How many dress shirts do you own?

I work in the banking industry and thus have to wear a suit and tie every day 5 days a week. I was taught while in the military that the way you dress and how you present yourself to the public is very important as to how seriously people taking you.
Could you get by with 5 shirts and five pair of pants? Sure however, the wear and tear you will place on those garments will be a little too excessive. Especially if they're cheaply made garments. If your are serious about your profession and the dress code dictates a shirt and tie and maybe even a suit then you really cannot afford to go cheap. Jos A Bank, Men's Warehouse K&G are companies I stay away from if I do not want to keep buying the same articles of clothing every year. I get my shirts at Brooks Brothers and their non-iron shirts are simply fantastic. They look good and are very well made so they last me a long time. Additionally, they are very low maintenance and do not require you to go to the dry cleaner. They actually recommend you Do NOT have them dry cleaned! I own 25 dress shirts:
5 white ( two are French cuff)
3 light blue ( one is button down)
1 ecru solid
1 pink solid
10 striped
5 checked
As far as trousers:
3 flannel Brown , charcoal, navy
5 wool gabardine in gray, navy, tan, charcoal, and blue.
2 summer weight in tan, and light gray
3 chinos
I own 8 suits
Navy solid and pinstripe
charcoal
grey solid and pinstripe
khaki
True blue
Brown
Notice I do not have a black one? Never use a black suit unless you in the funeral business. Your charcoal suit will fit most occasions unless a tuxedo is call upon. Which I do own.

maybe 20 or so. i rotate them, and dump or donate them when they start getting threadbare or get tears. then buy a bunch more when they're on sale around xmas time.
i honestly dont think most guys have problems with excessive spending on work clothes. that's more of a woman thing. guys will wear the same socks or boxers until there's holes and literally falling apart before dumping it.

Even with all the "finds" I also brought home my fair share of junk. Had to cut back on goodwill shopping because small leaks sink ships too.
