  • What will be your biggest expense this year?

I was going through my budget this year and I was curious what everyone predicts will be their largest expense this year outside of mortgage / rent. Mine is going to be a renovation project that needs to be done on my current home. I've come to the conclusion that homes a re a lot more expensive than you can ever imagine when you buy them -- there always seems to be something that needs to be fixed. Anyway, looking at your budget, what do you think will be your largest expense this year?

Medical expenses - we just had a baby and we are on a high deductible plan. We paid $4100 total. Our health insurance costs $3300 per year.

Probably taxes for me at about 30%. God-willing nothing medical. Second highest expense will probably be rent @ $650 X 12 months = $7800 annually (barring a rent increase).

Taxes. $185,567 (Federal, State, Local, SS, Medicare, Real Estate). Probably another $3,500 in sales tax.

                      Vacations, I think.

My husband is going to two cool exotic locales for conferences and I'm going to meet him at both of them and then we'll stay and extra week or so.

Those trips together will be, I think, the most we've ever spent on vacations in one year.

But it should be pretty fun!

im with quartermillionman. Taxes at near 30 percent between fedral, state, and sales tax. Second without including rent it would be vehicle maintenance, need snow tires this year.

Moving/setting up a new residence/all the security deposits for utilities (guessing I'll have to pay those since I haven't paid for utilities since 2006.)
