i have a tree that drops a ton of acorns, it is planted in the parking strip where it is deemed as a City Street Tree, this city requires a permit to trim or cut down any of these trees. i can sweep the sidewalk and within 8 hours it is covered again, this tree drops them on the city sidewalk, my driveway and the street.

these acorns can cause slippage or ankle injury to a pedestrian, am i liable for any injury that occurs on the sidewalk or street, i am pretty sure i would be liable if someone were to get hurt on my driveway

IANAL but where I live property owners are required to clear the sidewalks abutting their property of snow, and keep them ice free. I'm thinking that could also come with liabilities for non-compliance.

I'm not sure about the street but you are certainly liable for injury on your sidewalk. If the cement is cracked, you need to repair it. If it snows, you need to shovel and salt to prevent icing. I'm sure acorns would count too.

It may be worth it to inquire to the city about cutting the trees. At least then, if someone does get hurt there will be a paper trail that you can point to. You can say that you attempted to legally do something about the trees.

I'd contact the municipality. If they state you are not responsible for any potential injuries, ask for it in writing.

you think a bag of water softening salt would do the trick? this tree is 40 years old, stands maybe 40 feet tall and has a trunk thats 2 foot wide

ive been sweeping every other day or so, trying to keep up with it.

any salt will do....the finer grade leaves less evidence....

You definitely would be liable, honestly the best thing for you to do is get it cut down, or cut it down over time yourself. Too much of a hassle!
