  • New to Forums, Had a Question

    Hi all,

I just joined the forum and wanted to ask a question that's been nagging me for a while. I'm 24, and I hate the job I'm working at. The job itself is stressful and I'm constantly pressured to stay late. On top of that, I only make $30,000 per year (before tax). So I know I can do better. The problem is that I want to be financially independent; I don't want to work for others. I have no debt and have about $10,000 saved. What would you suggest that I do? I know, it's a vague question, but I was hoping for some advice.

Get a better job, save as much as possible, wait..........

That's about the best advice I can give based on what you posted.

Maybe you can provide more info on your situation, education, plans?

Honestly, you are young and there is probably a lot more you can learn working for others. It sounds like you want to be an entrepreneur and run your own business one day. If that's so, think about what jobs would give you experience and knowledge that will help you in the future.

I didn't launch my business until I was 41 and TBH, I wouldn't have succeeded earlier than that. I still had a lot to learn.

I have a bachelor's degree in molecular biology and a master's degree in the same field. I've found research to be tedious and far less important than it's made out to be. I want to do something that actually helps people, and from what I can see, most of the research that's done is never going to help anyone. So I want to do something else where I don't feel guilty for going home and relaxing and where I can do something that people actually benefit from (because they pay me for it).
