  • Back on ebay

I just listed 2 items on ebay. These are the first items I've listed in a long time. I'm not exactly sure how long.

I was in the process of doing some cleaning and decluttering and came across 2 items (souvenirs from a cruise) and did a quick ebay search and both items have actively sold on ebay. No big bucks - $8 for one and $3 for the other - but I'd be perfectly happy to get a few dollars out of the deal. I'll report back after the auctions end.

    Good for you.

I should probably make the time to list some of my higher-end stuff. Currently I pay a consignor 10% to list things for me. It can take a while for things to sell, and I'm short on time to run to the post office to ship things. Guess I'm just lazy.

I used to list stuff on eBay but got fed up of having to take the pic then put the pic on pc then upload etc, i just found it took too long but thankfully now they have the option to sell via the app i find it much easier and just take the pic with my phone and it takes no time now

Even if I don't use the app (which I didn't this time), it is so much easier to transfer photos from my iPhone to my computer than it used to be from my digital camera. That does make the process a lot quicker.

Good luck with your sales! I got through spurts of listing things, as it is a little time consuming. I think I put a few things up in February and March.

Just to update, 1 of 2 items sold. Of course it was the cheaper of the two, but I shipped it out this morning so that's one less item in the house and a few extra dollars in my Paypal account. Every little bit helps, right?

Yes it absolutely does. Just this weekend I had a semi-meltdown about all the stuff stuffed into every little spot in our house and how badly we need to turn some of it into cash. I hope your success transcends into inspiration at our place.

I really struggle with making the time to sell small-ticket items...any words of motivation?

Items that are not used or not loved and enjoyed are really just clutter taking up space, needing care and giving nothing back. Fact is the money was spent and the only recovery is selling. If it doesn't sell, you could donate it and bless someone else who would use and enjoy it. If not e-bay, try the local e-bay [Kijijji + name of your city] or Craigslist. Donate to your local charity shop or Goodwill. An over crowded space is an uninviting place to be.

if the items are similar, just make a template. take all the pictures, then list all at once. Change a couple words per listing, doesn't take long. Even dissimilar items don't take that long to list. Really shouldn't take that long to do. Say it takes you an hour to sell it all, print the labels, etc etc, and you net $100 out of it. You made $100 in an hour. Do you make $100 in an hour at your job?

Now that Ebay has free listing fees for my first listings each month (can't remember how many). I find it more motivating to list the small-ticket items. I list them, and make sure I re-list if they don't sell. I've been doing this with about 20 items, and they are slowly selling. I also try to take advantage of their other free listing promos.

                        Me Too

As blog readers know, I've tried to use ebay as part of my decluttering campaign. I've sold a bunch of DD's outgrown clothes, some things of mine, and in the last few weeks, some DVDs that DD no longer watches. It's not a ton of money, but it does motivate me to list things, and because I'm a goofball, I enjoy watching the auctions. The kid's DVDs are selling much better than I thought they would. And with things like that, you can just type in the UPC and not bother with a photo. Ebay automatically generates one.

                          I love ebay

I love it, I have used ebay to sell anything and everything from CDS to clothes and shoes. I have sold a fridge, oven and even a car on it. Thinking of listing my wife now but the reserve is a tricky one!

There is no better place to sell online in my opinion just don't forget the golden rules -
                          1. set a realistic reserve.
                          2. provide a comprehensive description.
                          3. take good photos.
                          4. answer queries.
                          5. dont mis-describe an article.

I think if you follow these rules then you wont go wrong.

                          Good luck.

                            ^

It's 50 free auctions/month with ebay normally offering unlimited posting a few days per month.
                            --------------

if you use a reserve, you're just wasting money, especially on a low value item. You should just set the base auction price higher because there's no additional cost to doing so, nor does that affect the fees you pay. If it doesn't sell, you don't lose anything because you didn't pay listing fees.
