  • Insurance on rental

    Hello all,

I will be renting my home out to tenants. This is the only rental I have.

How much coverage do I need via landlord insurance? Or, will my umbrella policy cover me?

I'm not an insurance guy and there probably are very few on the site. I would recommend you call your insurance agent and have them walk you through what your covered for. They will also be able to outline any additional coverage they may have.

I second the above opinion. Bundling this with your existing insurance policy would likely be the best way to go. You may get multiline discounts and such.

Umbrella insurance for homeowners cover additional liability over limits. It also covers the damage cost for you if you are renting some others property.

firehawkocean, if you let us know the state where are you residing then you can more accurate reply.

The best place to go would be your insurance company. Make sure to tell your tenants that your insurance is totally different from their renter's insurance. Renter's insurance will most likely cover their belongings if anything is stolen or in a fire. I'm not sure what insurance companies offer these days though.
