  • Changing insurers?

A friend of ours offered to run a quote for our auto insurance (3 autos), and we said OK. I have yet to look at each item in the quote, but it looks like we could be saving around $650 a year if we go with him. The homeowners was within about $20, so we probably won't switch that.

Is there anything I should be looking at that could be a red flag? The new company is Liberty Mutual if that matters. With all things equal and no horror stories, it sounds like I could just have him make the switch.

The savings on the auto may be tied to the homeowners. Often if you sign up for auto and home with the same insurer you will get a discount. Before switching, clarify that the quote on the autos is a stand alone price and not dependant on you signing up for homeowners insurance as well as auto.

I checked, and his quote is standalone. On the other hand, ours already has the discount since we also have homeowners. I'll have to see if it is worth switching both over and maybe saving more.

to think of all those $650 years that have gone by...

Make sure the new policy is in force before you cancel the old!

And you're getting the same coverage levels?

That's what I still need to verify.
