Ok, I know this isn't exactly on topic, but I thought it would be fun to see what everyone had to say.

Your house is burning down and you only have time to save one possession. All people and animals that were in the house are safe outside. What is the possession you save?

I will start.... I am only 27 and don't have too many sentimental items, so I would grab my computer. I have basically my whole life on here, and though I have it backed up, if I were to lose the information on my computer it would set me back a few years. Not to mention having a computer and being able to access the internet would probably speed up the insurance claim process.

I know a lot of you will have WAY more interesting things to save... so lets hear 'em.

We went through our house burning down when I was in the 2nd grade. It was very traumatic for my mom especially. This past year a pasture fire got within a mile of the house, and she rushed through grabbing all the pictures off the wall, the picture albums and her laptop.

Pictures would be a big one for me too. For me all my pictures are digitally backed up... on my computer. There is no replacing memories no matter how much the insurance pays out.

I think it depends on the room I am in..after all I wouldn't likely run through the house hunting down stuff. but I certainly would consider grabbing something next to me.

right now I am at my desk. I would prolly grab a stack of books and paper right in front of me. a few old books of my mothers and all my scout paperwork (though most of that is on my computer)

My computer is a desktop so would take to long to rip out cables...though I might consider it.

An elmwood chopping board. It was a tree felled by my then boyfriend, now husband, many years before our marriage and a piece of it was turned into a chopping board by a friend of ours for our wedding present. It is literally irreplaceable.

Well, I'm about the same -- I'd grab at least my small hard drive (has absolutely everything backed up on it) and realistically my laptop while I'm at it. Stuff can be replaced. The records I have digitally backed up can't be, which includes over 10 years of photos, my military and education records, and also my personal journal (I keep it digitally). All kinds of stuff like that.

In a different time, a computer might seem like just a possession, and perhaps it is. BUT with everything begin digitized our nostalgia is often stored digitally. Computers may be the first thing most people grab because of what they hold, not because of what they are.

Exactly. Years ago, people always said they'd grab photo albums or scrapbooks or files. Now, many of those things are stored on the family computer.

I'd grab the computer. I'd also grab my wallet and our safe - not for the money so much as for the documents and things that are a pain in the behind to replace.

Of course the first things I'd grab would be my wife and daughter.

Ya...I didn't think of that. Some of the documents I have in the safe would be pretty friggin hard to replace. I would like to see how you get that safe out with a wife under one arm and a daughter under the other lol

I have a small coin collection given to me by my late father. It isn't worth a whole lot, dollar wise, but I have a lot of sentimental attatchment to it. I think that would be my choice.

I'd grab my scriptures, photo albums and journals. Carbonite backs-up my computer.

Definitely pick one of my computers. Most the data is backed up on multiple systems, but that data represents memories/experiences of family, friends, school, work of the last 12 years for me as with pictures for anyone else. And I'm not just including it for all the music
