  • How much is your cell phone bill?

A comment in my iPhone app thread gave me the idea for this thread. I commented on what we pay and someone else thought that was really cheap. So tell us what you pay.

    What company?
How many phones on your account?
    Details of your plan.

We have an AT&T Family Talk plan.
There are 5 of us on the account including one iPhone.
We have 850 shared minutes, unlimited texting and the data plan for my iPhone.

Our monthly bill is about $175 which includes a small discount through my wife's employer.

FYI - If you are not taking advantage of any company discount, call your carrier and ask if you are eligible for one through your employer or any organizations you may belong to. We just found out we were eligible for a discount a couple of months ago. We could have benefited from it for the past couple of years had we known.

One phone on AT&T, no data package, but do have 200 text messages per month. Lowest minutes they offer, and I've never come close to going over. Right around $39/month I think.

        Verizon
Family plan - 4 of us
We have 700 shared minutes (anyone in Verizon doesn't count towards minutes though - we primarily call each other so rarely use any minutes), no texting or frills. But unlimited nights/weekends, roaming, nationwide, long distance (I thought that was kind of standard).

        $108/month

The other 2 people are our parents, so we basically pay $54/month for the 2 of us. I think we were paying more like $80/month before we added my parents. IT saved all of us money in the end, to share a family plan.

            Tracfone, pre-pay minutes
            One phone, one account
Average cost is $3 to $5 a month.
I'm a basic, low-usage user. Otherwise, the cost would be higher.

Same with AT&T. Calling other AT&T customers doesn't count towards our minutes. Also, nites and weekends don't count toward the minutes and 90% of our calling is on Saturday and Sunday. We have never used the 850 minutes and currently have about 4,000 rollover minutes on our account.

One Tracphone shared between two of us. I think the last deal we got was $.083 per minute. We use the phone mostly for long distance. On average, I'd say we use about 240 minutes, so that would work out to $19.92/month.

Same here - Tracfone, comes out to about $7 a month.

I'm always shocked at how much people pay for mobile phone service.

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that our cell phone bill is about $185...and that's with an employer discount!

DH and I have a family plan with verizon, 750 minutes or so, I have unlimited text, he has 250/month, both have data plans.

We could probably get it lower (no, I'm sure we can based on what you all are saying), but it hasn't been a priority. I just magically wish they'd lower it so I don't have to pay that much. :-D

                        Verizon family plan
                        3 lines
                        700 minutes
2 phones have 250 text plan
                        ~90.00 with DH's company discount

I want a smart phone so bad, but I just can't justify the monthly cost of having one.

                          $30
                          just one person (me)
I get 200 day time minutes and 1000 nights and weekend minutes.
                          AT&T

It is more for emergencies than anything else. Well, and for DH to check in on us when we are out. Ok, not in a creepy controlling sort of way, more of a caring sort of thing. He asks if the guys are having fun and if we got there ok, that sort of thing. We drive older cars, I drive about an hour to most of their activities, and most of the driving is rural highway and usually a narrow two lane curvy pass. He likes to make sure that we got there ok.

Can you elaborate on what kind of phone and/or features you are looking for?
