    Great, that's the way to do it. I think it is super to be able to take your time with your house hunting like this. I took months and looked at a lot of houses. We bought in the low end of the market yet in a safe, cheery neighborhood within walking distance of much we needed and wanted. Fifteen plus years and one kid raised later, we're still in the same place and do not regret one iota not having bought bigger or newer or suburban or anything else. Putting so relatively little into our home has enabled us to do and have some other very satisfying things, including saving (this being savingadvice.com, I should mention that.)

      I drove by the house. It is lovely! So are the few blocks around it...but anything beyond that is scary.
