  • Magnetic advertising signs, do they harm your car paint?

I just pruchased a pair of magnetic signs to advertise my Real Estate Business on the doors of my vehicle. I have black paint, just wondering if there's any advice on the maintenance of these signs and the paint that's on my car.

I don't think they damage the paint, exactly, but if you leave them in place, you can certainly notice that the rest of the car fades/ages differently than the covered area. I'd recommend not leaving them on any more than you have to. I know you are advertising your business, so you want them to be seen, but you don't want to end up with a big rectangle of shiny black paint when the rest of the car is duller and faded.

Not long after we got magnetic signs, someone stole one of them while my husband was in the grocery store picking up a few things. I won't buy them anymore.

Maybe you could move them from the front door to the back door and vice versa every day to control the fading?

If you live in an area like mine (where the wind and sand blow), you may need to be concerned about silt getting between the magnet and door and causing abrasion. Make sure to check for that sort of thing and clean the back of the magnet as necessary.

By themselves, No. If dirt gets in between the magnet and the paint, you may notice slight scratches in the clearcoat. I would recommend a good coat of wax on the area that you want to put the magnet, and be sure to completely clean the surface of the magnet before sticking it on your car. The only other concerns would be a mark on your car caused by the rest of the paint on your car fading if you leave the magnet on for a long period of time, and the fact that those stick on magnets make an easy target for theft.

I don't think they'll bother the paint if you alternate and drive your car without the signs in the sun as much as you o with them...the magnets will be less of an issue than shade...by the way, you are damn cute!

Weird indeed. Anyway, there are a lot of those magnets that say things like "Support our Troops" or "God Bless America" That is something that anyone may want on the back of their car. But, most of it is probably young kids stealing them just for something to do.
