  • Does anyone do anything to earn extra money?

    Hi guys,

I wanted to find out if anyone does anything to earn extra money to pay for rising gas and food prices.

I'm a website and graphic designer. I work full time for a firm making a fixed income. I have found some ways to earn some pretty decent extra money. On the side I have been buying and selling domain names. I've made enough this summer to pay for a gym membership for my family and pool passes for the summer. The way I'm doing it also earns me some residual long term income. I hope to pay off some debt by doing this.

I tutor math during Spring/Fall/Winter terms. I also babysit. I don't do either during the summer. Not so hi-tech, but works for me!

So, are you the guy that sold pizza.com for millions?

I make things out of metal in my shop and sell them either on eBay or my web site. I mostly make specialty parts for early Chevy and GMC pickups that are being restored or modified. I also make decorative items for the home and garden, as well as signs for businesses. For most all things I make I use scrap metal that is given to me.

I have a large shop where I can weld, and I have a fairly well organized machine shop as well. The centerpiece of my equipment is a CNC plasma cutting table that I hand built.

I run it as a business. I use this income for about 80% of my investing money.

            Domains

I wish I had pizza.com! I'm finding pretty decent domains and selling them for $100 - $500 each. I then make a residual after the sale.

I make some pocket change with Amazon.com's affiliate program. I have a few websites about my interests and I always link to specific books and get a kickback if anyone clicks through an ends up buying them (or anything on Amazon after clicking through my links, for that matter). Back in the day, I used to be more aggressive--writing book reviews, visiting forums, etc. but now I don't give my sites any PR and I still get about $25 every quarter.

I think I could do more if I wanted to but I already spend 8 hours a day at the computer; I try not to assign any more of my time to stationary pursuits. If I find that I'm having trouble paying myself first with the amount I've designated, I think I'll take up being a waitress or clerk on one of my days off to make a little extra and interact with people more.

I too sell on Ebay. I am also part of cashcrate, mypoints, squishycash, and cash lagoon. Each one of those sites are either being paid to sign up for offers, read emails, or take surveys. I've made a good little bit of money doing those (if anyone's interested you can check out my blog, I can always use referrals ) I also have a 2nd job a couple of nights a week in retail

I have sold on eBay, too. You really can make some extra money doing this. I sold all my old text books because they were just sitting down stairs. In doing so, I made enough money to buy a wonderful closet organizer my my closet. Now everytime I walk in my closet, I see where my old books went, and it is used everyday;rather sitting downstairs. So, if you have unused items, not being used, or cutter you would like to remove, eBay is a good way to make it all go away, and make some money at the same time.

Also, I sold beaded earrings on ebay. Now I sell my earrings in a local store and make even more money. I have a booth in the back of a nice coffee shop and make even more money there than eBay on them, and it is so fun!

However, I save all the money I make this way, buy something big so I see it everyday and use often. For example, I bought a nice folk art looking cabinet for my dinning room;that way I see where my money went on my craft, or I blew it on something I don't see and this way it makes me feel good knowing my earrings and hard work went on something I use everyday!

Also, I see someone has tutored durning the summer. I have done this also. I tutored in a Phonic program for students that need help in reading, writing, and spelling. It is a special program that required special training. It is used mainly for children or adults that are dyslexic.

I couldn't keep up with all the students I had! I had made a room in my basement just for tutoring, and wow! I had cars going in and out of my driveway all the time. However, it is getting the money from them that can be a challenge. Now days, it cost around $35 an hour for this type of tutoring, and some families, just have a hard time pulling that off, and yet their child needs it. So, what I did, was get a job right in a school. I am now a para in a public school in a speical ed setting and love it. However, tutoring is always a back up for me, or if I choose to do it during the summer.

                      I hope I helped.

I occasionally teach classes online. It's a good way to pick up a few extra bucks and I can do it after the kiddos go to bed.

I do online surveys, primarily physician-only ones but also Pinecone and AOL Opinion Place.
I exploit our reward credit cards whenever possible to maximize cash-back and bonus offers.
I occasionally do speaking engagements for a pharmaceutical company (have one coming up 6/18!)

I work through a medical temp agency whenever I am off at my full-time job. I also work a couple extra Saturdays a month. I also do online surveys and sell on ebay.

I do tons of on-line surveys. My husband just signed up to ride the bus to work instead of driving. This will save us almost $200 a month in gas money plus it will save on the wear and tear of his car.
