  • Multi-Task While Watching TV

Just wondering what types of things you do (or can do) while watching TV to make more time for yourself during the day?

I leave the t.v. off while my kids are in school. I would never get anything done if I had it on, plus I'm saving on electricity!!

I read the paper. I go through the mail. I do other assorted paperwork. I surf the net on my laptop. My wife knits.

I quilt; the frame is set up in front of the TV. Have been known to put the TV on in order to do some quilting.

Hang laundry. TV is in front of clothesline in basement.

Hehe. I assume this is for people who watch TV.

I will say this though, although let me be the first to say that I never thought it was a Good Idea to begin with. It's just something I do anyways.

I like to eat while I'm in front of the computer. I've done it for years, and I did that too when I had a TV to watch. Ahem. But I can't help it. It's just what I do.

As such, I'm working out a way to have eating space next to my computer.

I know other people work out with a treadmill in front of their TV. When I was younger, I always stretched whenever I watch TV. I was into martial arts then.

I've also cleaned my guns while watching TV. Uh, better file that one under "things that are not officially a good idea even though I did anyway" as well.

I guess anything repetitive that doesn't require too much brainpower is doable along with watch TV....

In general I avoid doing anything...When I watch with my children I want to be watching so I can comment..I like to ask what they thought of some action or other. I also like to suggest ways to solve the hero/ines problem, and ask their ideas...or ask if they can figure out why that person got into such a mess...

So I guess I am commentating the kids answer and we like it, even pause the movie when needed to go back and look at something or finish a thought..personally I don't mind missing part of a movie to talk with my kids.

If they are in bed, then my husband and I tend to still do mostly nothing, fold laundry if needed or crochet but right now my hook is 'nicked',,not stolen, it has nicks in it, so it catches and pulls the yarn...but what I mean is, my husband and I don't talk over the show....much....ok find we do.

But then we don't watch that much...

PP, I though you would've said "nursing".

For me, eating, surfing the web, balancing the checkbook, and exercising -- jogging on the treadmill or doing pushups/crunches.

I fold laundry during the program, and do other jobs that require me on my feet during comercials. I also crochet baby blankets (someone is always having one)-I keep one by the TV in a basket, and another in the car in case I find myself waiting somewhere--Dr or Dentist office.....

But, TV is limited in our house. I do watch the news at night. During the day the TV is often on to the educational channels-sometimes I let the kids watch it, other times I tape it for a future lesson (we homeshool). We have several Spanish lessons taped from it, as well as a series on earthquakes, volcanoes, and ocean life.

Heh, well, all children are currently weaned...the youngest is almost 2, no more nursing..though yeah, when he was younger, every night I nursed and watched something or other..unless I was on the computer..

You have to multi-task while watching TV, if you didn't time would just fly by.

I eat while watching TV. That's the only thing I can do. I am not good at multi-tasking. If I start doing something else, I'll tune myself off and will lose track of what's on TV.
