  • Entertainment at home?

How do you guys frugally entertain yourselves at home?
I use Netflix, and watch movies while I work out, lift weights, punch/kick my wavemaster bag ...cook, drink, etc.
Anything to keep me from going out and wasting money on drinks at a bar...have been doing pretty good so far....
    Any ideas, anyone?

Surf the net for information that will improve our lives (frugal info, new recipes, child development info, etc).

I socialize on the net. I am on a twins board. And, I have friends that I talk to on IM when we both have time. Sometimes, a five minute conversation takes all day, but it works because we still get to chit chat a little.

      Go for walks.

      Do yardwork.

      Play with the kids.

      Play with the cats.

I do a lot of research on the internet. I also try to learn guitar, that's time consuming My wife and I play ping-pong which is actually a good exercise.

I chat quite a bit too...I often use Skype with a webcam. It is really nice to see the people you are talking to! and it's free!

Sometimes I do not feel like going to a crowded gym, I run to the highschool and work out on the field, pullups, etc.

I bought a folding scooter (Goped) on Ebay and ride it around for fun...Its a blast, gets 100 mpg, and only requires a normal driver's liscense!

We (family with kids) read, watch TV together, play checkers or board games, ride our horses,, ride bikes, crochet, sew or knit together (that may be more of a girlie thing), kids love putting on fashion shows or plays they wrote, we fish in our pond, and do do it yourself projects...

Is it a private pond? Do you stock it with fish?

We watch a lot of movies. Netflix is a good bargain, when compared to other alternatives, but only if you use it right. You have to view the movies right away, and return them so you can get as many movies as possible. We average less than $1/movie and that includes tax.

The library is good for books and movies, but too often someone had checked out a title we were interested in. That was until we figured out you could search and reserve titles online. No more wasted trips to the library! Yay!

I use Netflix as well. I just have the one disc at a time, and use a lot of the instant viewing. Blockbuster is great as well. A lot of the same titles, same service, and after you watch the movie you can take them to any blockbuster store and get another movie...You just have to return the store one back to the store, and not in the mail.

                            Thrift,
What gaming system is your hubby playing? What game?

I have been on a real stay home kick lately...It really is making a difference in my finances...Between driving, eating/drinking out, etc I am able to pay most of the only CC balance I have! I have also been trying to clear clutter and have been slapping things on Ebay!

Missouri has had a great conservation department for decades. There is a program through which the state stocks ponds on private land as long as the owner allows others to come fish in that pond! Some ponds will never get fished by strangers/neighbors, others will.

I have subscribed to a free Missouri Conservation Department magazine since I was a child in Tennessee (!) and I guess I'd have to add that to my list of at home entertainment. I read a lot.

Oh here's an at-home entertainment I use the internet for. Both before and after traveling, especially on local rural roads or by boat, I like to study the area on Google earth. That helps me figure out some of the terrain I have seen and I get clues to the history of the place. Next time I go out I have more things too look for and questions to ask local people.
