I was about to ask what they typically cost. I would say that's worth it to lose weight and stay in shape which ,hopefully, saves money down the road on health care costs. Like I said above, I can motivate myself to do all the exercise I care for with calisthenics and running but that's not for everyone.

A wii fit sounds interesting. Maybe I'll check one out. Excuse my ignorance(I'm not real tech savvy) but can you see a demo or something where they sell these?

Wii Fit is $89. That's on top of the $249 for the Wii console itself, so total cost of about $340.

You can't generally see a demo anywhere I've been. Perhaps at Nintendo's website.

Wii Fit has 4 segments: yoga, strength training, aerobics and balance games. What I usually do is try to do at least 2 exercises from each area, varying the workout each time so I'm not doing the same exercises or working the same muscle groups each time. I've learned a bunch of yoga poses I didn't know (as I've never done yoga before) and also some strength training things. I do wish the aerobics offered a little more variety but I guess there is only so much you can do with the equipment in a small space in your house.

Youtube has several videos of Wii Fit.

Here is a pretty thorough demo: Demo

Is there anything you can't find on YouTube?

I read recently that every SECOND, there is 13 HOURS of video uploaded to YouTube.

The "My Fitness Coach" game apparently doesn't use the Wii Fit and is $30. They give you a fitness test in the beginning and have you add your height and weight. You record your resting and active heart rate. You choose what you want to do (strength train, stretch, yoga, weight loss) and then they make a workout for you and also give you a workout schedule (that you can change if you want to).

Apparently, there are a few segments where they ask how you are doing...and then they modifiy the upcoming workouts depending on how you feel. It is supposed to be a much better workout than the Wii Fit. I am definitely going to buy it. Turns out my local Game Stop carries it!

Never thought to go to You Tube. Thanks so much Cassandra. I kind of feel old now for not keeping up with this stuff.

I checked this out! Now I want one! lol! I have a feeling it does not have subtitles or close-captioning which in that case not work for me.

Your post got me thinking. There is actually very little on Wii Fit for which hearing is necessary. In fact, the only thing I can think of off hand is a couple of the exercises where you aren't facing the screen the whole time and there are audio prompts to indicate when to switch positions. Other than that, everything else is graphic based. Really, you should have no problem using Wii Fit.

We just got a wii this week and love it. When wal-mart gets some wii fits in we are going to get one. Like any sizeable purchase my stomach was churning a little, but alls well now and having fun.

Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement for wii and I highly recommend that you be debtfree, have an EF and cash to pay for your wii if you must indulge.

I had to add we got our Wii (& Fit) pretty much for free and the novelty wore off pretty quickly for us. (My dh bought and sold a few Wiis, for profit, to pay for a used one).

To be fair, I was tired of fighting the kids over it. LOL.

& I am a pretty big fitness buff. So I found the whole thing rather subpar to my regular routine. Which could be my other bias.

If my dh wasn't a gaming buff and we didn't have a million games, maybe we'd use it more. We are more addicted to all the Mario games right now. (I think the key is those are much better multi-player games though. I could see preferring the Wii Fit if it weren't for the kids always trying to get in on it).

Just another angle. As with any kind of fad, I Couldn't see paying full price, and I think the novelty wears off eventually, for everyone.

It's fun but I haven't used the Fit in a month, easy. We just got it in like November.

I bet the same will happen with me. My oldest daughter is pregnant so hopefully in a few years it will get more use. Of course, by then it could be a dinosaur by electronics standards.

My wife and I were using it consistently for 3-4 months. Over the holidays and through last month, we both got away from it. She started back last week and I got back on today.
