Saving on Silverware

I think decent looking and functional flatware is pretty cheap. I've bought stuff at WalMart for our office and it is sturdy and attractive enough (not that we care at the office). I think it was $1 for every 4 pieces. A step up from that would be an inexpensive set from WalMart or Target. I'm not sure how much those are but still not a lot for service for 8.

My mother in law is pretty picky, from what you saw, do you think she will be a little bit impressed (not shooting high over here

I don't think anyone would be impressed with the cheap stuff from Wal-Mart unless she is used to you serving plasticware.

If you want to impress, I'd go with a set of Oneida flatware or something comparable. Service for 8 will probably run about $60. Amazon has service for 4 for $25-$40 range.

Unless she is easy to impress I doubt that will suffice...buy what you and wife want, not to impress. MIL will be there for a meal or two, you two on the other hand will be eating for a looong time.

Might try a second hand store or antique store. But if you go that route it would probably be harder to add any missing peices.

But, I agree with DS--Walmart or target--I think Sears grand also carries some.

Two suggestions : 1) try a store called Tuesday Morning. I don't know if it's national or not, but they have things like that for dirt cheap. Nice brands too, I bought Oneida flatware there for next to nothing. 2) try Overstock.com, seems like something you could find there inexpensively.
