I haven't bought a newspaper in a long time. I know Sunday's are big for coupons and I thought there was one other day during the week. Isn't there another day generally known for being a big coupon day? I'd like to get into using coupons more and I'm sure I could recoup the cost of a newspaper (25 cents).

kilcher: I thought the same as you. I wondered if my newspaper gave me enough coupons that I would use to justify the cost of the subscription. I started setting aside the money I used for coupons and just kept it in the house. I also started seeing that if I hadn't had the newspaper that I would not have known about the sales. If you want to see if it is worth it, just deduct your coupon money from your grocery bill and keep it to the side. I found out that my newspaper paid for itself over and over again. Problem was that I was keeping my coupon money in the house and using it for something that I didn't want to come out of the budget.
Now, I deposit all of that money in my $20 Savings Challenge accounts.

herm4: Try just setting the money aside for the coupons that you receive for the Sunday newspaper. My neigbor will give me the paper if I ask for it. Just keep the money to the side and see if its worth it. Depending on th sales, I've bought another paper on the side.

In the Dallas area, the coupons are only in good number on Sundays. The newspapers figured out that people really want coupons, they now offer 2 papers bundled together at $2 available on Saturdays in stores as an early edition.
I'm starting back using them, being very careful to avoid temptation of buying things we don't normally use.

The paper isn't delivered to my apartment. So, I have it delivered to my mom's house. But, we definitely get the cost back. My sister buys it at the beginning of the fall semester. They are always out there selling the paper for $18 a semester. It's 7 days a week. So, it's really cheap for us. Plus, DH likes to read the paper anyways.
Here in Atlanta, the coupons are in the AJC on Sundays, our county paper on Sundays and then in the Buyer's Edge AJC supplement on Thursdays. I'm in an apartment, so I don't get the Buyer's Edge. But, my mom does. So, she gets two sets of coupons. The Sunday paper & then the FREE Buyer's Edge.

Hmm... I thought it was kind of a universal thing but apparently not. I'll check with some people at work who get the paper.
eisor - I read through your blog the other night and really enjoyed it. Congrats on your recent marriage, I'm getting married in December.
