  • Turbo Tax question

Two of my college age kids need to file 2014 tax's because they made a few thousand dollars in part time jobs and I was wondering if I purchase a Turbo Tax product does it allow me to complete taxes for more than one person or do I need to buy one copy of it for each child? I used Turbo Tax years ago for myself but I don't remember if it's good for more than one person.

I don't know the answer to your question, but your kids should be eligible to file for free directly on the IRS website. Of course, TaxAct online is also free. I always did my taxes, even in college with part-time jobs. It's a good learning opportunity for them. If you're going to do them for your children, at least sit them down and do them together.

One copy will do it. At least, that's how it's worked every year we've bought it. Both of our returns, not jointly filed, one copy of the software.

I filed my taxes free online with Turbo Tax. This year the state return is free also. There are several places where they suggest upgrading to something that you pay for, but you can just click "no thanks" and continue. The software is really easy to use, and they import some W-2's so there is even less to input.

If you go to the irs.gov website and your income is under 31k you can file taxes for free. One of the free sites is turbo tax. My DD19 just did her's this past weekend with me providing assistance. I want her to learn how to do her own taxes and with the software there's no reason a college kid can't do it on their own with mom and dad's help.
